Work, global supply chains and labour

Conventional studies of the trade in global 'commodities' (basic objects of commerce, often raw materials that are used as inputs in the production of other goods or services) tend to explore the challenges that workers, their organisations, social and environmental regulation pose to businesses, with technology playing a key role in improving efficiency, overcoming, or 'fixing' these challenges and restoring competitiveness. Our approach instead focused on the challenges that current business models, practices and technologies for energy production are presenting to workers and their immediate environment and explored existing alternatives that prioritise social and environmental concerns.
